Hitachi Vantara Federal Sponsors Caps’ Salute to the Military Night as Gold Sponsor

Reston, Va. – February 8, 2019 – Hitachi Vantara Federal, a leader in data-driven solutions and services for the federal government, was a gold sponsor of the Washington Capitals’ annual Salute to the Military Night last evening in support of veterans and active duty service members.

“This event served as a great opportunity to celebrate and honor our service members and veterans, and come together with partners and other members of our defense community,” said Dave Turner, president and CEO of Hitachi Vantara Federal. “Showing our appreciation for the servicemen and women of this country is a critical part of our core values and we are honored to have had the chance to recognize the veterans, service members and their families within our community.”

This year’s event provided more than 500 tickets to members of the armed services to attend the Capitals’ game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Capital One Arena. During the game, the Capitals honored the service members in attendance through in-game and intermission activities, selecting veterans to perform the national anthem and holding an auction featuring autographed sports gear. All proceeds from the auction benefitted the USA Warriors Hockey Program and the United Heroes League.

The USA Warriors Hockey Program, based out of Rockville, Maryland, encourages individuals who have disabilities incurred during military service to the United States to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to the level of their ability. The program also supports the formation of USA Warrior Hockey Programs locally and nationally. The USA Warriors’ programs consist of standing team and sled or “sledge” hockey teams. The USA Warriors is a strictly volunteer organization.

The United Heroes League actively works to ensure that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in sports. The organization has provided more than $3 million worth of free sports equipment, game tickets, cash grants and summer camps to military families across the U.S. and Canada. United Heroes League wants to ensure that all 5 million children of military families are able to develop critical life skills through sports and has inspired more than 90 professional athletes and over 30 sports franchises to lend their name and support to United Heroes League.

The Washington Capitals, owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, are a professional ice hockey team within the National Hockey League based in Washington, D.C. In addition to eleven division titles, the Capitals have reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998 and 2018, securing victory in 2018. The team collaborates with Washington, D.C. basketball teams, the Wizards and the Mystics, for their five pillars of community engagement: youth basketball and hockey, education and scholarship, pediatric health and fitness, military and veterans’ affairs, and hunger and homelessness.
